Paris Koh Fine Arts (201 Bridge Plaza North, Suite 1, Fort Lee, NJ) is delighted to present a solo exhibition Mindscapes: The Artistic Universe of Heejung Kim. The exhibition will run from March 4 to 30, 2025, with an opening reception on Wednesday, March 5th, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

New York-based artist Heejung Kim presents her latest solo exhibition, Mindscapes, a profound exploration of the intersection between personal memory, Buddhist philosophy, and the celestial universe. Through intricate drawings, three-dimensional installations, and artist books, Kim constructs a visual language that transcends the mundane and ascends toward the extraordinary.

Kim’s work is deeply influenced by Buddhist philosophy and the symbolic structures of Tibetan mandalas. Her creative process is an act of meditation—repetitive, intuitive, and deeply personal. She utilizes ink, traditional Korean paper, wood, and various household materials to form mesmerizing constellations of shapes, dots, and lines that mirror the impermanence and interconnectivity of existence. Mindscapes invites viewers to navigate these intricate compositions as if entering a hidden world of cosmic and subconscious dimensions.

A key feature of this exhibition is Kim’s ability to translate her dream imagery into tangible visual narratives. Common motifs in her work include celestial bodies, human features such as eyes, noses, and mouths, as well as everyday objects like ribbons, stairs, and rice bowls. These elements intertwine to tell a story of interconnected experiences and relationships, reflecting Kim’s journey as an artist navigating different cultural identities.

In her recent works, Kim extends her practice beyond two-dimensional drawings, venturing into three-dimensional pieces that merge geometric abstraction with natural elements. Carved wooden structures adorned with intricate drawings evoke an ethereal quality, with delicate star-like formations blooming from the surfaces. The subtle use of small pins and repeated dot patterns further amplifies the sense of vastness, evoking a dreamlike cosmic expanse.

Kim’s artistry has been widely recognized, with exhibitions across the United States, Europe, and Korea. Her works are part of esteemed collections, including the Princeton University Art Museum and the Asian American Art Centre. Following her acclaimed participation in Art Gwangju 2023, where all her works were sold out, Mindscapes marks her continued engagement with audiences in Korea and beyond.

Through Mindscapes, Heejung Kim invites viewers to contemplate the unseen forces that shape our existence—the ephemeral dance of stars, the echoes of memory, and the silent narratives embedded within everyday life.
