Paris Koh Fine Arts (201 Bridge Plaza North, Suite 1, Fort Lee, NJ) is pleased to announce the upcoming group exhibition The Vibrations of Stars, on view from June 16 to June 30, 2025, with an opening reception on June 16th 6-8 PM. Featuring works by 14 emerging Korean artists—Hyo Sun Kang, Hoon Kang, Jin Hyun Nam, Young Seok Kwon, Geum Hee Lee, Joo Young Lim, Young Ae Lee, Si Won Lee, Ok Rang Oh, Archi-Sondomon, Jin Ja Jung, Hyung Gon Lee, Young Jo Choi, and Hongstar—this special exhibition marks the second chapter of a newly launched annual collaboration between PHJ Gallery (Seoul) and Paris Koh Fine Arts (New Jersey).

Jointly organized by PHJ Gallery and generously supported by Paris Koh Fine Arts, the ongoing collaborative project consists of two curated exhibitions per cycle—one dedicated to the practices of established artists, and the other to emerging voices from the younger generation. The Vibration of Stars highlights the second of these, spotlighting a rising cohort of artists whose works respond to contemporary experience with personal depth and imaginative intensity.

 

The exhibition’s title metaphorically refers to the unseen "vibrations" that reside within the artists themselves—memories, emotions, dreams—brought into visual form through each artist’s unique language and medium. Ranging from painting and mixed media to conceptual and process-based practices, the featured works explore the subtle energies that shape our interior worlds, much like stars that shine silently yet powerfully in the vast cosmos.

 

Hoon Kang channels unconscious emotion into mythic, creature-like forms, confronting mass image culture with dense, symbolic art. Influenced by comics and Eastern thought, his work transforms inner chaos into visual power.

Youngseok Gwon expresses human emotions through body language and facial expressions, recently focusing on insomnia. He holds a BA from University of Suwon and has exhibited widely since 2005 in Korea and abroad. He won the 2010 Korean Art Contest Special Selection award.

HyoSun Kang’s I’ve Got the Medicine series turns unconscious archetypes into glowing red pill shapes on wood, symbolizing healing and vitality through water imagery. Her work transforms circles into sacred, meditative spaces, culminating in The House Within, a symbol of inner healing and comfort.

JinHyun Nam, a former political prisoner, creates art expressing human contradictions and hope through fragmented faces. Starting late without connections, he pursues honest creativity, balancing painting and teaching with a focus on fresh composition.

Siwon is a painter fascinated by cities as modern mountains and the fragile nature of urban life. His work explores existence, relationships, and solitude, reflecting on how connections shape identity even in absence.

Architect Son Domoon blends architectural philosophy with abstract art, exploring complexity and human connections. Inspired by life and exhibitions, he values research, dedication, and health. His Korean background shapes his artistic identity.

OkRang Oh is a Korean artist whose paintings explore urban living and social coexistence through depictions of densely packed homes and modern city life. Her work reflects on housing as both a personal and national issue, blending postmodern sensibilities with social themes.

GeumHee Lee is a Korean artist known for layered silk screen works that reflect time, nature, and human emotions. Her art evokes resilience and transformation through subtle colors and overlapping images inspired by personal and natural rhythms. She holds an MFA and is a Ph.D. candidate at Hongik University, with several prestigious awards.

YoungAe Lee’s Traces series explores memory and healing through collaged ink drawings on hanji. Blending Eastern and Western techniques, she uses circles and cutout forms to transform emotional scars into meditative, abstract compositions that reflect her pursuit of inner peace.

HyungGon Lee’s Landscape of Wu-Wei series uses Japanese lacquer and gold dust to explore a spiritual journey from material form to pure awareness. Rooted in Buddhist philosophy, his minimalist works reflect on interdependence and the dissolution of ego, expressing light as both subject and self—a silent meditation on the essence of existence.

Ju Young Im’s work explores the theme of duality—between nature and humanity, tradition and modernity, the inner and outer self. Using Korean painting techniques on traditional paper, she examines the emotional and psychological layers of human experience. Her paintings invite viewers to reflect on how opposing forces coexist and shape our understanding of the self.

Jin Ja Jung’s abstract paintings use the lotus as a symbol of inner strength and transformation. Focusing on withered leaves rather than full blooms, her work reflects emotional resilience and the quiet cycles of life, rooted in nature, art therapy, and personal reflection.

Hong Star’s Star Series uses the symbol of the star to reflect human resilience, hope, and inner light. Born from the stillness of the COVID-19 era, these works radiate meditative energy—inviting viewers to recognize their own brilliance. Through vibrant abstraction and textured surfaces, she weaves together natural inspiration and emotional depth into uplifting, luminous compositions.

YoungJo Choi’s Winter Lotus Field series uses 40 years of brushwork to depict the subtle energy of dried lotus stalks. Lines and dots create optical illusions like a dragonfly’s wing, expressing nature’s cycle of presence and absence. He paints on the back of traditional Korean paper with ink and glue, then adds spontaneous brushstrokes on the front, blending control and freedom to capture natural beauty.

 

Rooted in the belief that art can vibrate with and through the human psyche, The Vibration of Stars invites viewers into a space of quiet resonance—where feeling, memory, and material converge. This exhibition offers not only a compelling introduction to a new generation of Korean artists, but also an immersive experience of how the invisible might be made tangible through artistic expression.

별빛이 예술이 되는 순간 -《The Vibration of Stars》

뉴저지 포트리에 위치한 Paris Koh Fine Arts(201 Bridge Plaza North, Suite 1, Fort Lee, NJ)는 오는 2025년 6월 16일부터 30일까지 열리는 그룹전”The Vibration of Stars”를 소개합니다. 이번 전시는 강효선, 강훈, 남진현, 권영석, 이금희, 임주영, 이영애, 이시원, 오옥랑, 아키손도문, 정진자, 이형곤, 최영조, 홍스타 등 14인의 떠오르는 한국 작가들의 작품을 선보이며, 서울의 PHJ 갤러리와 뉴저지의 Paris Koh Fine Arts가 새롭게 출범한 연례 공동 프로젝트의 두 번째 전시를 장식합니다.

PHJ 갤러리의 기획과 Paris Koh Fine Arts의 후원으로 진행되는 본 프로젝트는 한 해에 두 차례의 기획 전시로 구성되며, 각각 중견 작가와 신진 작가의 작업을 집중 조명합니다. 이번 **《The Vibration of Stars》**는 그 중 젊은 세대 작가들의 시선과 감각을 조망하는 두 번째 전시로, 동시대의 삶과 감각에 대한 깊이 있는 응답을 개성 있는 시각 언어로 풀어낸 작품들을 소개합니다.

 

전시 제목인 “별의 진동(The Vibration of Stars)”은 작가들의 내면에 자리한 감정, 기억, 상상과 같은 보이지 않는 진동들이 각자의 매체와 언어를 통해 시각화되는 과정을 은유적으로 표현합니다. 회화, 혼합매체, 개념적 작업, 그리고 과정 중심의 실험 등 다양한 형식으로 구성된 이번 전시는, 마치 우주의 별들이 고요하지만 강렬하게 빛을 발하듯, 우리 내면을 형성하는 미묘한 에너지와 감각들을 섬세하게 드러냅니다.

강훈은 무의식의 감정을 신화적이고 생명체 같은 형상으로 표현하며, 대중 이미지 문화에 맞서 상징적이고 밀도 높은 작품을 만든다. 만화와 동양 사상에서 영감을 받아 내면의 혼란을 시각적 힘으로 변모시킨다.
권영석은 신체 언어와 표정을 통해 인간 감정을 표현하며, 최근에는 불면증을 주제로 작업한다. 수원대학교 학사 출신으로 2005년부터 국내외에서 활발히 전시했고, 2010년 한국미술대전 특선 수상 경력이 있다.
강효선의 ‘I’ve Got the Medicine’ 시리즈는 무의식의 원형을 붉은 알약 형태로 변형해 물 이미지를 통해 치유와 활력을 상징한다. 원형을 성스러운 명상 공간으로 바꾸며, ‘The House Within’에서는 내면 치유와 위안을 표현한다.
남진현은 전 정치범 출신으로, 분열된 얼굴을 통해 인간 내면의 모순과 희망을 드러낸다. 늦게 시작했으나 진실한 창작을 추구하며 회화와 교육을 병행하며 신선한 구성에 집중한다.
시원은 도시를 현대의 산으로 보고, 도시 생활의 연약함을 탐구하는 화가다. 존재, 관계, 고독을 주제로 하며, 부재 속에서도 관계가 정체성을 형성함을 반영한다.
손도문 건축가는 건축 철학과 추상 미술을 융합해 복잡성과 인간 연결을 탐구한다. 삶과 전시에서 영감을 얻으며 연구, 헌신, 건강을 중요시한다. 한국적 배경이 그의 예술 정체성에 영향을 준다.
오옥랑은 한국 작가로, 빽빽한 주택과 현대 도시 생활을 묘사하며 도시 공동체와 사회 공존 문제를 다룬다. 개인적·국가적 주거 문제를 포스트모던 감각과 사회적 주제로 풀어낸다.
이금희는 층층이 쌓인 실크스크린 작업으로 시간, 자연, 인간 감정을 반영한다. 미묘한 색채와 겹침을 통해 회복력과 변화를 표현하며, 홍익대학교에서 MFA와 박사 과정을 밟고 있다. 여러 권위 있는 상을 받았다.
이영애의 ‘Traces’ 시리즈는 한지 위에 콜라주한 먹 그림으로 기억과 치유를 탐구한다. 동서양의 기법을 섞어 원과 잘라낸 형태로 감정의 상처를 명상적 추상으로 변형해 내면의 평화를 추구한다.
이형곤의 ‘무위의 풍경’ 시리즈는 일본 칠과 금가루를 사용해 물질에서 순수 의식으로의 영적 여정을 표현한다. 불교 철학에 뿌리를 두고, 상호 의존성과 자아 해체를 반영하며 빛을 주제이자 자아로 삼아 존재의 본질을 묵상한다.
임주영은 자연과 인간, 전통과 현대, 내면과 외면의 이중성을 주제로 한지에 한국화 기법을 활용해 인간 경험의 감정적·심리적 층위를 탐구한다. 작품은 상반된 힘들이 공존하며 자아 이해를 형성함을 관객에게 성찰하게 한다.
정진자는 연꽃을 내면의 힘과 변형의 상징으로 삼아 추상적으로 표현한다. 활짝 핀 꽃보다 시든 잎에 집중해 감정적 회복력과 삶의 조용한 순환을 자연과 미술 치료, 개인 성찰에서 뿌리내려 표현한다.
홍스타의 ‘별’ 시리즈는 별을 인간의 회복력, 희망, 내면의 빛의 상징으로 사용한다. 코로나19 시기의 정적에서 태어난 이 작품들은 명상적 에너지를 발산하며, 관객이 자신의 빛남을 인식하도록 초대한다. 생동감 있는 추상과 질감으로 자연에서 영감을 받고 감정의 깊이를 엮어 밝고 빛나는 구성을 완성한다.
최 영조의 ‘겨울 연밭’ 시리즈는 40년의 붓질로 겨울 연대의 미묘한 에너지와 리듬을 담아낸다. 선과 점이 잠자리 날개의 착시를 만들어 존재와 부재의 자연 순환을 표현한다. 한지 뒷면에 먹과 풀을 바른 뒤 앞면에 즉흥 붓질을 더해 통제와 자유를 조화시켜 자연의 아름다움을 포착한다.
