Paris Koh Fine Arts(201 Bridge Plaza North, Suite 1, Fort Lee, NJ) is proud to present a solo exhibition "Dasol Choi: Origami & Pottery".

This show will run from April 11 - 20, 2025, with an opening reception on Saturday, April 12th, fron 2 - 4 pm.

Dasol was born on March 2, 1995, in Seoul, without muscles in her fingers. From a young age, she required extensive physical therapy, which included activities that strengthened hand movement—such as playing the piano, drawing, and origami.

Among these, Dasol developed a deep passion for origami. She taught herself by studying origami picture books and watching YouTube videos, and she loved teaching anyone who showed interest in learning.

Through Milal, she was introduced to Ms. Myunghee Kim, an origami teacher based in Washington, and went on to receive a basic-level origami certification. In 2022, at an exhibition of works by friends with disabilities from Milal, Dasol sold her first piece: an image of Jesus composed of hundreds of origami camellia flowers.

Her love for origami gradually expanded to include drawing and ceramics. In 2020, she met artist Kangsook Kang of Tobang Studio, whose guidance in working with clay helped Dasol nurture a strong sense of pride and confidence in her artistic practice.

Dasol continues to grow her talents with dedication, finding joy in each completed work. To celebrate her 30th birthday and the journey she’s been on, we are honored to present this special exhibition of her creations.

Her family hopes that through her art, Dasol will continue to find meaningful life experiences, build positive connections, and become a source of inspiration and encouragement to others.

최다솔 개인전: Origami & Pottery

다솔이는 1995년 3월 2일, 서울에서 손가락에 근육이 없는 상태로 태어났습니다. 어린 시절부터 광범위한 물리치료가 필요했으며, 피아노 연주, 미술, 종이접기처럼 손의 움직임을 필요로 하는 활동들이 치료의 일환이었습니다.

그 중에서도 다솔이는 종이접기에 특별한 열정을 보였습니다. 종이접기 그림책을 들여다보고 유튜브 영상을 참고하며 독학으로 다양한 작품을 만들어갔고, 누구에게든 기꺼이 종이접기를 가르쳐주는 것을 좋아했습니다.

밀알의 소개로 워싱턴의 김명희 종이접기 선생님을 만나 기본 수준의 종이접기 자격증을 취득하였고, 2022년 밀알 장애인 친구들의 작품 전시회에서는 수백 개의 종이접기 동백꽃으로 만든 ‘예수’ 이미지를 첫 작품으로 판매하는 경험도 했습니다.

종이접기에 대한 그녀의 열정은 점차 그림과 도자기 작업으로 확장되었습니다. 2020년에는 토방의 강종숙 선생님을 만나 흙을 빚는 도예 작업을 통해, 자신이 하는 일에 대한 긍정적인 자존감과 자부심을 키워나갈 수 있었습니다.

지금도 다솔이는 자신의 재능을 끊임없이 발전시키기 위해 노력하고 있으며, 작품 하나하나가 완성될 때마다 큰 기쁨을 느끼고 있습니다. 이런 다솔이를 응원하며, 서른 번째 생일을 맞이해 전시회를 열게 되었습니다.

다솔이의 가족은 그녀가 작업을 통해 의미 있는 삶의 경험을 이어가고, 긍정적인 관계를 맺으며, 다른 이들에게도 영감과 용기를 주는 존재로 성장하길 바랍니다.
