Paris Koh Fine Arts (201 Bridge Plaza North, Suite 1, Fort Lee, NJ) proud to present a 2025 Gwangju International Gallery Exchange Exhibition ‘Beyond the Horizon: Kyung-Sook Hwang, Miyoung Choi, Young-Sook Lee, SoonAh Jeong, Min Kim. This exhibition runs from July 25 – August 2nd, 2025. The Opening Reception with 5 artists on the Friday, July 25th from 6-8 PM.

 

 

The exhibition will feature five women artists. The lineup represents a rich diversity in age and artistic approach, highlighting the unique perspectives and aesthetic languages of contemporary Gwangju art. This year’s focus on women artists across generations aims to explore the intersection of local identity and global contemporary art. According to Gwangju KFAA President Park Kwang-goo, “This exhibition serves as a meaningful platform to support the global expansion of women artists from the region. We hope to raise the international profile of Gwangju art and further enrich its diversity and creativity through continuous overseas collaboration.”

Sculptor Kyung-Sook Hwang, whose artistic journey spans over five decades, has evolved her sculptural language from early figurative works in plaster, bronze, and terracotta to minimalist steel sculptures that express dynamic movement through restrained lines and planes. Her practice embraces philosophical depth within formal simplicity. Notably, her I Am an Artist series—utilizing magnets—encourages audience participation, transforming the work into an interactive medium of communication and expanding its potential into fields such as art therapy and education.

Miyoung Choi creates symbolic paintings that weave together nature, narrative, and philosophy, with the lotus (蓮) as her central motif. Her work explores the interdependence of opposing forces—life and death, good and evil, yin and yang—revealing them as interconnected rather than separate. Blue-toned lotus compositions appear radiant from afar, yet evoke both emptiness and longing up close. Through these works, she reflects on the harmony of nature and the cyclical essence of existence, offering viewers a poetic space for contemplation and emotional resonance. Her practice is a philosophical pursuit to illuminate the human spirit.

Young-sook Lee explores the fundamental principles of nature through her artistic practice. Her work reflects on entropy—the shift from order to disorder; fractal structures that embody self-replication and infinite division; and cosmic time, as seen in the distant light of stars. In her Camellia series, she visualizes the dissolution of order, while her Iris series captures the recursive beauty of natural forms. Her Starlight works evoke the Milky Way’s ancient light. Through these inquiries, she offers a poetic meditation on the unseen forces that shape both nature and the universe.

SoonAh Jeong’s work explores nature as both a sanctuary and the emotional origin of human life. Through lyrical landscapes, she expresses the rhythm, memory, and vitality of the earth—particularly the richness of autumn as a harmonious culmination of celestial and terrestrial forces. Her paintings embody an emotional resonance between humanity and nature, capturing seasonal transitions through color, texture, and line. Rooted in a philosophical awareness of existence, her art reflects a longing for a mature life untainted by human desire and invites viewers into a contemplative dialogue on the essential connection between self and nature.

Min Kim’s work explores the themes of purity, vitality, and healing through the visual language of the lotus flower. Rooted in the East Asian concept “Hyangwonikcheong” (香遠益淸 – The farther the fragrance travels, the purer it becomes), her recent series is inspired by the serene beauty of white lotuses blooming in Baengnyeonji, Muan, South Korea. By simplifying the lotus form and emphasizing sculptural lines and surfaces, she seeks to reveal the invisible life force and contemplative spirit within nature. Her paintings blend traditional Korean aesthetics with a modern formal approach, offering viewers a meditative space of emotional clarity, beauty, and spiritual resonance.

 

 

The Gwangju Branch of the Korean Fine Arts Association (hereinafter referred to as “Gwangju KFAA”) will once again host the 2025 Gwangju International Gallery Exchange Exhibition, showcasing the artistic excellence and creative potential of artists from Gwangju on the global stage. Titled “Beyond the Horizon”, the exhibition continues from last year, reflecting the vision of expanding Gwangju art through a glocal (global + local) perspective.

This year, the project features collaborations with four international galleries: Chantier Art Gallery (Spain), Paris Koh Fine Arts (USA), GATCHI Gallery (Germany), and Mongol Art Gallery (Mongolia). A total of 20 artists from Gwangju, five for each country, will participate in this global exchange program.

 

The second exhibition of the series will be held in New York Cityat Paris Koh Fine Arts, running from July 25 to August 2, 2025. The exhibition is hosted by Gwangju KFAA, supported by the Gwangju Metropolitan Government, and organized in collaboration with the Gwangju Cultural Foundationand the Art Gwangju Secretariat, alongside the local gallery in New York.

 

The Gwangju International Gallery Exchange Exhibition continues to expand in scale and scope since its inception, establishing itself as a key platform for international cultural exchange and creating real opportunities for regional artists to reach a global audience.

파리스코 파인 아트(Paris Koh Fine Arts, 201 Bridge Plaza North, Suite 1, Fort Lee, NJ)는 2025 광주국제갤러리교류전 『지평을 넘어: 황경숙, 최미영, 이영숙, 정순아, 김민』을 선보입니다. 본 전시는 2025년 7월 25일부터 8월 2일까지 개최되며, 오프닝 리셉션은 7월 25일(금) 오후 6시부터 8시까지 참여 작가 5인이 함께합니다.

 

 

이번 전시는 세대와 표현 방식이 다양한 다섯 명의 여성 작가를 조명합니다. 그들은 각기 고유한 시각과 미학적 언어를 통해 현대 광주 미술의 생동감과 깊이를 보여줍니다. 올해는 특히 다양한 세대의 여성 작가들을 집중 조명하며, 지역적 정체성과 세계 동시대 미술이 교차하는 지점을 탐색하고자 합니다. 광주미협 박광구 지회장은 “이번 전시는 지역 여성 작가들의 세계 진출을 위한 의미 있는 플랫폼이자, 지속적인 해외 교류를 통해 광주 미술의 국제적 위상을 높이고, 그 다양성과 창조성을 더욱 풍부하게 확장하는 계기가 될 것”이라고 밝혔습니다.

황경숙 작가는 50여 년에 걸친 조각 여정을 이어오며, 석고·청동·테라코타를 활용한 초기의 인체 중심 조형에서 절제된 선과 면을 통해 움직임을 표현하는 미니멀한 스틸 조각으로 작업 세계를 발전시켜왔습니다. 단순한 형식 속에 철학적 깊이를 담아내는 그녀의 작업은 참여형 조각으로 확장되며, I Am an Artist 시리즈는 자석을 활용해 관객과의 소통을 유도하고, 예술 치료 및 교육적 가능성으로도 영역을 넓히고 있습니다.

최미영 작가는 자연, 서사, 철학을 상징적 회화로 엮어내며 연꽃(蓮)을 중심 모티브로 삼고 있습니다. 생과 사, 선과 악, 음과 양 등 상반되는 개념이 서로 연결되어 있음을 탐색하며, 푸른빛의 연꽃은 멀리서 볼 때 빛나지만 가까이 다가서면 공허와 그리움을 전합니다. 그녀의 작업은 존재의 순환성과 자연의 조화를 묵상하게 하는 철학적 시도이며, 관람자에게 깊은 정서적 울림을 제공합니다.

이영숙 작가는 자연의 근원적 원리에 대한 깊은 탐구를 바탕으로 작품을 제작합니다. 그녀는 질서에서 무질서로의 전이(엔트로피), 자기복제와 무한 분열을 품은 프랙탈 구조, 별빛에 담긴 우주의 시간 등 보이지 않는 자연의 이치를 형상화합니다. 동백 시리즈는 질서가 해체되는 과정을, 붓꽃 시리즈는 반복되는 자연의 아름다움을, 별빛 시리즈는 은하수의 고요한 빛을 담아냅니다. 그녀의 작업은 보이지 않는 세계를 향한 시적 명상입니다.

정순아 작가는 자연을 인간 삶의 정서적 원천이자 안식처로 바라보며, 서정적 풍경화를 통해 자연의 리듬, 기억, 생명력을 표현합니다. 특히 가을의 풍요로움을 천지간의 조화로 담아내며, 색채와 질감, 선을 통해 계절의 흐름을 감성적으로 포착합니다. 존재에 대한 철학적 자각에서 출발한 그녀의 작업은 인간의 욕망으로부터 벗어난 성숙한 삶에 대한 갈망을 담고 있으며, 자연과 자아 사이의 본질적 연결에 대한 사유를 제안합니다.

김민 작가는 연꽃의 형상을 통해 순수성, 생명력, 치유의 메시지를 회화적으로 탐색합니다. 그녀의 최근 연작은 전남 무안 백련지에서 피어나는 백련의 고요한 아름다움에서 영감을 받았으며, 동양의 ‘향원익청(香遠益淸)’이라는 개념을 시각화합니다. 조형적 선과 면을 강조하여 연꽃의 생명력을 단순화된 형태로 담아내며, 전통적 한국미학과 현대적 조형어법이 어우러진 명상적 공간을 관객에게 선사합니다.

 

광주국제갤러리교류전은 광주광역시지회 (사)한국미술협회(이하 “광주미협”)가 주최하는 글로벌 미술 프로젝트로, 광주 지역 작가들의 우수성과 창의성을 세계에 널리 알리고자 기획되었습니다. 전시명 『지평을 넘어』는 지난해에 이어 올해도 지속되며, 지역성과 세계성을 연결하는 ‘글로컬(Glocal)’ 비전을 반영하고 있습니다.

 

올해 교류전에는 스페인의 Chantier Art Gallery, 미국의 Paris Koh Fine Arts, 독일의 GATCHI Gallery, 몽골의 Mongol Art Gallery 등 4개국의 갤러리가 함께하며, 총 20명의 광주 작가(국가별 5명)가 참여합니다.

그 중 두 번째 전시는 미국 뉴욕 파리코 파인 아트에서 2025년 7월 25일부터 8월 2일까지 열립니다. 이번 전시는 광주미협이 주최하고 광주광역시, 광주문화재단, 아트광주 사무국의 후원을 받아, 뉴욕 현지 갤러리와 협업하여 진행됩니다.

 

『지평을 넘어』 광주국제갤러리교류전은 그 규모와 내용 면에서 매년 발전을 거듭하고 있으며, 지역 작가들이 세계 무대로 나아갈 수 있는 실질적인 발판이자 국제 문화교류의 핵심 플랫폼으로 자리매김하고 있습니다.
